Spartans land four-star linebacker prospect
Just when you thought Mark Dantonio’s 2013 recruiting class had slowed down a bit, the Spartans received a huge commitment on Monday from four-star linebacker prospect Shane Jones.
Jones is currently a junior at Cincinnati Moeller High School, which has become quite a pipeline for this Michigan State coaching staff. Former All-American linebacker Greg Jones, current defensive end Marcus Rush and 2012 wide receiver recruit Monty Madaris all came from Moeller High.
In Jones, the Spartans are getting what they hope to be their middle linebacker of the future. He recorded 89 tackles, nine of which were for a loss and two sacks this past fall. He is known as a fierce hitter who has a knack for making big plays on the field.
The four-star prospect also had offers from the likes of Michigan, Nebraska and Oklahoma, but ultimately sided with Mark Dantonio and the Spartans. Jones joins Brother Rice linebacker Jon Reschke as the second four-star linebacker to join the 2013 recruiting class.
He is the sixth verbal commitment for MSU’s 2013 recruiting class.
